Well here goes nothing, here is my potentially jumbled retrospective, it brings back some real nice memories. Though where to start? Lets go with
Biggest surprise: The eleventh bottle Goliath. One of the first pale ales that I have really enjoyed, was a real shock to me. https://geekpubtalk.com/2012/12/12/advent-calendar-2012-the-eleventh-bottle/
Ones I won’t touch with a barge pole would be: The tenth bottle Brodies smoked rye porter, my god it was bitter. https://geekpubtalk.com/2012/12/10/advent-calendar-2012-the-tenth-bottle/
The sixteenth bottle Mikkeller Spontankiek, pure sour vinegar bleh. https://geekpubtalk.com/2012/12/16/advent-calendar-2012-the-sixteenth-bottle/
The worst, aka use to clean your toilet: The thirtieth bottle Oude Geuze Boon, maybe after 20 years of refermenting it would be better than paint… vinegar paint, currently not willing to try waiting though, just do not want. https://geekpubtalk.com/2012/12/31/advent-calendar-2012-extra-the-thirtieth-bottle/
One’s I will be getting again: The first bottle Treetops, really want that exotic coffeeness back. https://geekpubtalk.com/2012/12/01/advent-calendar-2012-the-first-bottle/
The fourth bottle Satan red. Want to experience that slight warmth it had again. https://geekpubtalk.com/2012/12/04/advent-calendar-2012-fourth-bottle/
The seventh bottle Grand cru as I didn’t get to take my time with it at all, which was a shame as it was real nice. https://geekpubtalk.com/2012/12/08/advent-calendar-2012-the-seventh-bottle/
The thirteenth bottle Dog Bolter as I really want to get one to keep till the later stages of its short sixth month shelf life and see how different it is. https://geekpubtalk.com/2012/12/13/advent-calendar2012-the-thirteenth-bottle/
The fifteenth bottle Barbar, another blonder beer that I actually liked, might have been all the honey. https://geekpubtalk.com/2012/12/15/advent-calendar-2012-the-fifteenth-bottle/
Special mention: The twenty third bottle Gulden Draak. This one was only just beaten to my top spot the very next day. The balance, fruity notes and strength alone was very good. Hell it had a real strong smack to it too. Plus later learning that it is recommended with dark chocolate of all things (which I also love) sealed the deal on me getting another one one day. https://geekpubtalk.com/2012/12/23/advent-calendar-2012-the-twenty-third-bottle/
*Drumroll please*
My favourite for The Advent Calendar 2012: which I near wrote a love letter to is The twenty fourth bottle Kasteel Donker. Congratulations! You were Delicious! From the aroma, to the ultra smooth texture, to the unbelievable sweetness, to the creaminess, to how heavy it was, to the dark treacle underline, this beer was everything I like about beers/ales. Proper job. https://geekpubtalk.com/2012/12/24/advent-calendar-2012-the-twenty-fourth-bottle/
Well that’s that. My first ever whole month, my first advent calendar, my first set of reviews. Would I ever do it again? Without a doubt. Apart from the fun of telling others about what I was doing, to showing the photo’s, to write about my experiences and mostly importantly, I really did learn a lot and my sense of smell is way better at identifing notes and flavours. Overall a wonderful experience.
Thank you to one and all who experienced this with me. See you next december me thinks.
