For Christmas my parents bought me a book, 300 Beers To Try Before You Die! So I managed to pick up a couple and thought I’d comment on them as well as a few others I’ve tried recently. Now I’m no where near Scotts level for detail and some of these were drunk a little while ago but I will do my best. The first two are from the Beer book and the last two are random ones I picked up.
First up – Brooklyn Lager Now for a lager, the colour is quite dark, almost like an ale (although there is also a Brooklyn ale). The taste is nice and pleasent but there is no real distinct taste. Kind of an easy drinker.
Next – Duvel
Now this looks darker in the photo that it is in real life. Its a Belgian golden ale with a bit of a twang to its taste. Its something I cant put my finger on. Its also a fairly strong one at 8.5%. Not in a hurry to try again but I wouldn’t say no to one.
Now for the randoms – Badger Blandford Flyer
Luckily it doesnt live up to the Bland part of its name. Might be hard to see on the photo but on the neck of the photo it says “A bite of spicy ginger”. This isnt immedietly noticable when I started the drink, but I certainly noticed it by the end! This is probably just me though as i’m a wuss with spices. I was suprised to find there are notes for sight, smell and taste on the back of the bottle but given the beer, they are mostly just stating ginger and spice.
And by no means lastly – Punk IPA
Now this rather fine ale is quickly becoming a favourite of mine. It has a nice hint of fruit to both its smell and its taste. Well to be more specific, citrus fruit. My flat mate said grapefruit and I’m inclined to agree. It just really appeals to my taste, which I find interesting as I generally dont gravitate to IPA’s. Definetly interested in trying more of the Brew Dog ales.
