So I saw these next to all the ales in Morrisons. Having not heard of the brand Jeremiah Weed, I thought i’d give them a go. I had a idea what they might be like from the labels. The Root Brew mentions ginger as its first ingredient, though as for the Sour Mash Brew, I can only remember that term from the label on Jack Daniels.
First up, the Root Brew. Given the mention of ginger, I was expecting either something like Crabbies or Blandford Flyer (see https://geekpubtalk.com/2013/01/23/recent-ale-round-up/ for my thoughts on the Flyer). What I got was something very close to Crabbies, though not as strong tasting. The title of the post refers to a slogan on the bottle label. It is indeed smooth sippin’. Unlike a Crabbies, I didnt finish the bottle with a strong tang in my mouth. Though like the next bottle, I’m not sure how many of these I could take in one go.
Finally, the Sour Mash Brew. Remembering the term from a bottle of JD wasnt far off the mark. This tasted very similar to a drink my Dad makes called an Old English (its main ingredients being JD and Canada Dry). Usually an Old English is a short drink, therefore a 500ml bottle can be a bit on the sweet side, even for someone with a sweet tooth like me. Like the Root Brew this is also smooth sippin’ so if it suits your tastes, worth a try.
