This afternoon here we have Special extra export stout from De dolle brewery standing at 9%. This is earlier than normal today as I’m going back up north for christmas later on. So I kinda had this with a late breakfast with waffles. The aroma is alcohol, coffee, dark chocolate and raisins. When pouring it was very lively and frothy, but it mellowed out quickly and the head just disappeared. Thankfully the carbonation is present but not intrusive. The taste is actually red wine like, with chocolate, coffee, dark sugar, alcoholic strength, dark fruits, begins spicy then becomes bitter. Aftertaste carries on the bitterness but doesn’t go to overboard, I wouldn’t say this is smooth or clingy either. Pleasantly complex and balanced. Plus I’m interested in the refermented bit.
