On the left we have Maredsous 8 by Duvel brewery standing at 8%. Had this last night at work party so only took some basic notes. Aroma was dark fruits, caramel and a chunk of malts. And taste was much the same with added alcohol strength. Its carbonation was quite high, the texture was medium, the strength was well hidden and the aftertaste didnt last long. (but that may have been due to champagne, vodka and oven proof rum)
On the right we have todays beer and my first can for the advent calendar. Northern monk brought to you from Northern star standing at 5.9%. This one will be quite easy as it is everything you would expect from a mocha porter. Dont get me wrong, it is nice, just not much to talk about with it. The aroma is coffee, sweet chocolate, cocoa and there is a creaminess to it. The taste is much the same but well balanced with a touch of nuttiness as well. Very smooth on the palate and not clingy. Aftertaste leaves you wanting more, as it should.
